Throw Some More Wood On The Fire

“And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings. {13} The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.” Leviticus 6:12-13

When the Tabernacle was completed and erected, and the altar set up before the entrance to the Holy Place, the wood was carefully laid in order and set on fire for the first of countless burnt offerings to the Lord. The priests and Levites were careful to keep a constant supply of firewood near this altar, because God’s command was that the fire “shall never go out.”

Christians need to be careful to maintain the fire on the altar of their love and devotion to Jesus Christ. As Proverbs says, “Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out.” If you are going to “stay on fire for God,” then you are going to have to get up and throw some more wood on the fire.
