An Open Letter to a Wayward Missionary

Dear Bro. Scott H________,

I am sorry to be blunt, but I need to come quickly to the point in this email. When we take on a missionary at our church, we expect that the missionary is not only doctrinally sound but also practically sound, particularly in regard to their children. It is a shame that so many preachers kids and missionaries kids turn out wrong. Often, compromises in the missionary’s life become manifested in the behavior of their children. Such, I fear, is the case with your son Matt.

It has come to my attention through an unidentified source close to you that your son is, in fact, though he is from the great State of Texas, rooting for the Miami Heat. And that if the Heat manage to win against Chicago, he will continue to root for the Heat even against the Dallas Mavericks. I was even sent this picture of your son in the very act of mocking the Mavericks, implying a sweep:

Of course, I could be mistaken. He could be evidencing the fear that the Heat will in fact be swept by the Mavs, as the two-time world champion Lakers were in the second round. I hope that I am mistaken. But even so, I hope that you will heed the scriptures and correct your son while there is still hope. Otherwise, we may have to discontinue our support – at least until after the Finals are over.

I am very saddened by this news, but I believe that kids can be reached with the truth. I will be praying for you and for Matt. Hopefully no other children havebeen affected.

God bless & GO MAVS,

Pastor James Rasbeary
