Can you imagine going to the canned vegetable aisle of a grocery store to buy a can of green beans- only to find that none of the tin cans have labels? Certainly labels are important! They tell you what is “inside the can.” Without an accurate label, you would have to open every can to find what you were looking for! Here at LBC, we are not ashamed of our “labels.” We are not ashamed of who we are or what we believe. Our name says it all:
- Lighthouse – Standing tall on the rock of Scripture and shining the gospel light to the world.
- Baptist – a historic name identified with a set of Bible doctrines held by churches throughout the long history of Christianity.
- Church – a called-out assembly of like-minded, baptized believers, organized according to the New Testament to carry out the Lord’s Great Commission (Mt. 28:19-20).
We are independent Baptists. This means simply that our church is an independent and autonomous organization. We are not part of a denomination such as the Southern Baptist Convention or the American Baptist Convention. The churches of the New Testament were independent and autonomous churches with Christ alone as their Head. There are no denominations or conventions in the New Testament; there is no clergy priesthood, no earthly headquarters, no presidents or popes over the local church. Each church answers to Christ; each church votes on her own missionaries; each church runs her own business according to the Bible.
Lighthouse Baptist is also unashamedly a fundamental Baptist church. Though this term has been abused by a liberal media, it simply means that we take the Bible literally, interpret it properly, and strive to practice it in our daily lives. The term fundamentalist was originally used to differentiate between liberals and Bible-deniers and those who believed the Bible and practiced what it taught.
Over time, Baptist churches who stood against the rising liberalism and doctrinal corruption of the times became known as Bible-believing or fundamental Baptists. Fundamental Baptists are known for taking a strong stand on the preservation of the inspired Scriptures. We believe that the King James Bible is God’s preserved Word in the English language. Fundamental Baptists take God’s Word seriously and put it into practice.
Of course, among autonomous congregations you will find great variety and diversity. Not all take the same positions or stand on some things. However, among most true fundamental Baptist churches you will find a strong emphasis on personal soulwinning, world missions, high standards, personal and ecclesiastical separation, a Biblical pattern for the home, conservative music, strong Bible preaching, and strong Sunday Schools.
Lighthouse Baptist Church stands strong on the Word of God. We are not ashamed to be identified as fundamental Baptists. We are an old-fashioned church preaching the old gospel and standing for the faith of our fathers.
